Pires backs duo for Arsenal manager’s job

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires believes Patrick Vieira or Mikel Arteta would be a good choice to take over as manager.

Both ex-Gunners captains have been touted as possible replacements for outgoing boss Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.

So too have the likes Max Allegri of Juventus, former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti and ex-Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Pires said: “We talk about Allegri, Ancelotti, Luis Enrique and my two friends Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta too.

“All of them are of a very good profile to replace Arsene Wenger. That’s why, for the Arsenal board, they have a lot of work to do this summer.

“It is very important to take a very good decision. Of course, it is very difficult to replace Arsene Wenger because he has done well over 22 seasons.

“Most important is to find a balance between the squad and the new manager. Vieira or Arteta has a very good profile to have success with Arsenal.”

Wenger’s 22-year reign will end on Sunday with an away match against Huddersfield.

“It’s an emotional week and his last game will be an emotional day for Arsene Wenger,” Pires said.

“When we talk about Arsene Wenger, the most important thing is to talk about the positives.”
