Former Arsenal prospect set to sign for QPR

Elijah Dixon-Bonner, who was previously at Arsenal as well as Liverpool, looks likely to be signed by QPR, according to West London Sport.

The midfielder, 21, has been on trial at Loftus Road and the Championship club have decided to offer him a contract, West London Sport say.

He is well known to QPR head coach Mick Beale, who worked at Liverpool prior to his subsequent spells as Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Glasgow Rangers and more recently Aston Villa.

Dixon-Bonner was released by the Merseyside club at the end of last season, having moved to Anfield from Arsenal as a teenager.

The Essex-born player is now set for a move back to the south east and his signing would add to QPR’s attacking midfield options, with the likes of Luke Amos and Taylor Richards already in the squad.

But QPR’s promising young striker Sinclair Armstrong has been sidelined by a thigh injury.

Armstrong, 19, picked up a heavy knock during a recent Under-21 match against Colchester.

Beale told West London Sport: “Unfortunately, during that game, Sinclair had a clash with their goalkeeper in the first half, managed to play on, but hasn’t returned to training since. He’s got a bit of a bash to his thigh and we’ll need to let that settle down.

“It’s a real shame, because we sent him to play two games in the hope that he would score and it would help his confidence and his composure in the box – and he went and scored five goals in two games.

“So it was almost like jackpot in terms of what we were looking for. Sod’s law he’s gone and taken a knock. It’s nothing major but it’s still uncomfortable.”
