Arsenal annihilate Sheffield United to make it seven in a row

Arsenal annihilated Sheffield United in an astonishing 6-0 away victory at Sheffield United – their seventh league win in a row.

In a totally one-sided game, the Gunners scored five or more goals for the third consecutive away match. There were goals for Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Ben White, while Jayden Bogle scored an own goal.

The result cemented Arsenal’s position in third in the table – two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and 11 clear of north London rivals Tottenham in fifth.

The only negative was that Martinelli limped off in the second half.

Mikel Arteta’s men were three up within 15 minutes and five up by half-time at Bramall Lane.

They almost went ahead in the second minute, when Bukayo Saka fired against the bar and Martinelli’s follow-up was cleared off the line by Jack Robinson.

The opener came a couple of minutes later, when a neat move culminated in Rice pulling the ball back from the left for Odegaard to apply the finish from eight yards out.

After Bogle turned the ball into his own net, Martinelli drove in the third and Havertz sent a left-footed effort into the far corner to make it four.

Saka didn’t score but ran riot on the flank in the first half, setting up Rice for Arsenal’s fifth goal, before being substituted at the interval.

White added a second-half sixth with a thumping left-footed strike from near the edge of the penalty area.

Arsenal: Raya, White (Soares 65), Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior, Odegaard, Jorginho (Partey 65), Rice (Trossard 74), Saka (Vieira 45), Havertz, Martinelli (Jesus 64).
