Emery insists Arsenal need to improve

Arsenal boss Unai Emery suggested his side’s defending needs to improve following their Europa League victory over Vorskla Poltava.

The Gunners won 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium, where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice and there were also goals for Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil.

But Emery, who gave a debut to goalkeeper Bernd Leno, was disappointed with the manner of the goals conceded.

He said: “I think the team progressed well in the 90 minutes but when you are 4-0 (up) – I want to continue being competitive in the match and going forward to score more goals and not conceding like today.

“For us it is very important starting this competition with a victory, also with our supporters, and giving chances to many players to find the pieces, and also confidence, like for example with Aubameyang – he scored two times – and also for other players.

“Today we are happy first, but it is clear we need to continue to improve things, and our disappointment is clear – the two goals.”

It was a good night for Aubameyang , who looked sharp throughout.

The striker told BT Sport 2: “I think we played well in the first half and the beginning of the second as well. We scored four goals.

“We have to improve and try to fight, and not concede a goal like we did in the last minute.”
