Arsene Wenger admitted he could not explain Arsenal’s dire performance against Liverpool.

The Gunners boss spoke for just over two minutes at his post-match press conference after the 4-0 defeat at Anfield, where his team produced an abysmal display.

And Wenger was unable to explain why his players had so appallingly failed to perform.

“That question is very difficult to answer straight after the game,” he said.

“There are some reasons but I don’t think I have too much to come out on that at the moment.”

Wenger surprisingly chose to leave out summer signing Alexandre Lacazette and his team offered very little in the striker’s absence.

Wenger said: “From the first minute to the last we weren’t at the level requested for such a game – physically, technically and mentally we weren’t at the level and we were punished. That’s basically it.

“Of course you can analyse the chances we gave away, but overall our performance was not at the requested level.”
