Concern for Debuchy and Arsenal assess Giroud injury

Arsenal are assessing a hamstring problem Olivier Giroud picked up during their 3-1 win against Bournemouth, while Mathieu Debuchy looks set for another spell on the sidelines.

Debuchy went off with a hamstring injury just 16 minutes into his first appearance for the Gunners in a year.

Theo Walcott picked up a knock, but an injury striker Giroud suffered towards the end of the game is of more concern to boss Arsene Wenger.

“He (Walcott) got a kick but nothing major,” Wenger said during his post-match press conference.

“The only worry we have is Giroud. We have to see how big the damage is. It’s his hamstring.

“He told me that he felt a twitch in the back of his hamstring, and we will see. I hope it’s not too bad because he told me after that when he sprinted he didn’t feel anything.”

Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Walcott also netted as Arsenal ended a run of three successive draws.

But the win was marred by the injury to Debuchy, who expects to face another significant period out of action.

“He thinks it’s a severe one. Don’t go too far because I have to speak to medical people, but you can only assess it really after 48 hours,” Wenger said.

“You have to let it bleed and usually they have an MRI scan 48 hours later to see how big the damage is.”
