Board meeting will decide Wenger’s future

Arsene Wenger says his future will be decided at an Arsenal board meeting after the FA Cup final.

The Gunners will face Chelsea a week on Saturday, after which it will be revealed whether Wenger will be extending his 21-year reign as Arsenal manager.

Many Arsenal fans are against the Frenchman staying on and have called for him to go.

The 67-year-old has been reluctant to discuss his future in recent weeks, but revealed at a press conference on Friday morning that a decision would be taken soon after the season ends.

He explained: “There are many aspects to be discussed at a board meeting. One is what happens with the manager.

“Of course I will be there. At the moment we should focus on the short term and what is going on on Sunday and in the cup final.”

Arsenal finish their Premier League campaign with a home game against Everton on Sunday, when a win could see them secure a top-four finish.

Wenger’s side are currently fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who are at home to relegated Middlesbrough.

Wenger added: “We have to do our job. We are professionals and want to win.

“We are on a good run and all we can do is win our game on Sunday. After that what happens to me is less important.

“I am here to serve the club and the best way to do that is by winning the next game.”
