Arsenal v Southampton: team news, provisional squads, key stats

Arsenal will be without Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium.

The Armenia international limped out of Thursday’s Europa League win over CSKA Moscow with a knee problem and will not be fit for the clash with Saints.

Goalkeeper David Ospina (ankle) is also sidelined, as is long-term absentee Santi Cazorla (Achilles), but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can return having been cup-tied in Europe.

Provisional squad: Cech, Macey, Holding, Mustafi, Chambers, Bellerin, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Nelson, Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Elneny, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil, Iwobi, Welbeck, Lacazette, Nketiah, Aubameyang.

Southampton’s Mario Lemina faces a late fitness test before their manager Mark Hughes selects his starting XI.

The defensive midfielder is yet to fully recover from a virus but returned to training on Friday and could yet be passed fit. Sam McQueen has already been ruled out, owing to a groin injury.

Provisional squad: Forster, McCarthy, Taylor, Soares, Pied, Bertrand, Stephens, Hoedt, Yoshida, Targett, Lemina, Davis, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Boufal, Long, Redmond, Tadic, Gabbiadini, Austin, Carrillo.
