Arsenal v Man Utd player ratings – Koscielny and Xhaka poor, Mustafi even worse

Alexis Sanchez scored on his return to the Emirates Stadium as Manchester United knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup. Here’s how we rated each Gunners player in the 3-1 defeat.

PETR CECH: Could maybe have done better with the third goal as he palmed Paul Pogba’s shot back into play as his impressive FA Cup career came to a disappointing end. 6

AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES: The right-back crucially kept Alexis Sanchez onside for United’s opener, but he did offer plenty going forward. 6

SOKRATIS PAPASTATHOPOULOS: His night ended prematurely as he hobbled off with an ankle injury after just 20 minutes. 5

LAURENT KOSCIELNY: Looked all at sea after Sokratis came off and played Romelu Lukaku onside for United’s second goal. He came off in the second half with a nasty facial injury. 5

SEAD KOLASINAC: Lucky to stay on the pitch after appearing to butt heads with Marcus Rashford. 6

LUCAS TORREIRA: Showed glimpses of the form that has made him so popular at the Emirates but could not create anything clear-cut. 6

AARON RAMSEY: Set up Arsenal’s first goal and was generally their best player on the ball. Almost equalised in the second half. 7

GRANIT XHAKA: Was anonymous in a midfield role, but switched to centre-half after the two injuries and was up against it. 5

ALEX IWOBI: Had moments of promise down the left, but faded in and out of the game. Replaced by Ozil after the break. 6

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE: Got an important touch in the build-up to Arsenal’s goal but was unable to have much more of an impact. 6

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG: Was in the right place at the right time for his 17th goal of the season and generally looked bright. 7

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI (on for Sokratis, 21): Criminally allowed the United defence far too much space their second goal and generally looked shaky. 4

MESUT OZIL (on for Iwobi, 64): Making his first appearance since Boxing Day, he did not exactly state a compelling case for another any time soon. 5

MATTEO GUENDOUZI (on for Koscielny, 64): Could not stem the United tide. 5
