Olivier Giroud could be available for Arsenal’s derby against West Ham on Saturday.
The Gunners striker picked up a hamstring injury against Bournemouth at the weekend and missed Wednesday’s EFL Cup defeat against Southampton.
But boss Arsene Wenger has allayed fears that Giroud, who recently returned after injury, could be facing another significant spell on the sidelines.
“Giroud will be short. He has a chance to be available for Saturday,” Wenger said.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after the Southampton game, Wenger added that he expects Danny Welbeck to return to full training soon but does not know when Santi Cazorla might be available for selection again.
England striker Welbeck is recovering from a knee injury, while Cazorla has been out since the middle of last month with an Achilles problem that is still causing some concern.
Wenger, whose side are fourth in the Premier League table, said: “Welbeck is in training – not in full training but during the month of December he should be back in full training. He’s not far.
“Cazorla I don’t know, honestly. It’s inflammation that can go in two days or two weeks – I don’t know.”
