Arsenal youngsters beat Tottenham

Mathieu Debuchy scored on his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt for a year as the Gunners’ Under-23s beat 10-man Tottenham 2-0 on Friday.

The out-of-favour Frenchman, who may be given another chance in the first team following Hector Bellerin’s injury, fired in via the crossbar after Chris Willock’s cross.

The goal, midway through the second half, came 360 days after his last appearance, as a late substitute for Bellerin in the Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

Shortly after Arsenal took the lead, Tottenham had Charlie Owens sent off for bringing down Gedion Zelalem.

The Gunners were given the chance to complete the win in injury time when Willock was fouled in the box by Luke Amos.

Stephy Mavididi scored past goalkeeper Pau Lopez, making his first appearance for Spurs following his arrival from Espanyol in August.

Tom Carroll was also included in the Tottenham starting line-up, with first-team boss Mauricio Pochettino watching on.

Shayon Harrison had gone closest in a goalless first half, his shot saved by Arsenal keeper Matt Macey.

But the Gunners came close to taking the lead within seconds of the restart, Kyle Walker-Peters having to head off the line.
