Arsenal man set to miss another month, reveals Wenger

Santi Cazorla may not be fit enough to return to first-team football for at least another month, according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Cazorla has missed the last five weeks since coming off during the 6-0 Champions League thrashing of Ludogorets.

The Spanish midfielder is suffering with inflammation at the back of his Achilles.

Wenger said his ‘gut feeling’ was that Cazorla was two weeks away from training again but would need another two weeks after that to build up his fitness.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Paris St-Germain, Wenger said: “He looks to me like he is making progress but as long as a player is not in full-time training with the squad it’s very difficult to set targets.

“It’s not a big injury that will harm his future [but] it’s always difficult with inflammations to give a set time.

“My gut feeling is it will be two weeks but when the player comes back to full training it still takes two weeks to be ready to play a game.”

Lucas Perez is beginning his recovery from ankle ligament damage sustained in last month’s EFL Cup win over Reading.

The summer signing from Deportivo La Coruna has resumed light training but has not taken part with the rest of the squad.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey are likely to be fit to face PSG despite missing training on Tuesday.
