Frank Lampard has not ruled out taking a major role at Chelsea following the departure of Michael Emenalo.
Emenalo surprisingly resigned as technical director this week after 10 years working at Stamford Bridge.
Blues legend Lampard has since been touted as a possible replacement for the Nigerian along with other popular former players such as Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack.
And Lampard – Chelsea’s record goalscorer – has indicated that he would welcome the chance to take on a new role at the club where he remains a much-loved figure.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former England midfielder said: “I worked with Michael for seven or eight years.
“His role at the club coincided with the most successful period in Chelsea’s history so I think he deserves a lot of credit from that. Everyone at Chelsea wishes him well as he moves on.
“In terms of myself, I don’t know. I’m a Chelsea person, I’d love to be involved with the club long-term in some way. We’ll see.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has been ruled out of Belgium’s international match against Mexico because of a foot injury.
Batshuayi has returned to his club for treatment and for Chelsea to assess the extent of the problem.
