The Sun have picked up on reports in Turkey claiming that Arsenal are interested in signing Trabzonspor youngster Abdulkadir Omur.
Spanish side Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen on the highly-rated 18-year-old midfielder, who has been linked with a number of other top European clubs in recent months.
Omur (pictured above wearing number six and playing for Turkey’s Under-18 side) was also said to be a target for Barcelona and Real Madrid earlier this year.
The Sun’s story claiming Arsenal are keen on him appears to be based on former Trabzonspor coach Sadi Tekelioglu suggesting that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to sign the player and that Atletico are also interested in snapping him up.
Tekelioglu, who has been out of work since leaving Trabzonspor last year, also appears to have suggested that Arsenal are the frontrunners to sign Omur.
He has been quoted as saying: “Arsenal want to sign Abdulkadir.
“I heard that Atletico Madrid are interested in him as well. But Arsenal are ahead of them in the race to sign Omur.
“Arsene Wenger does a good job when it comes to discovering young players. Abdulkadir will be a success when he moves to Europe.”
