Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign Ross Barkley and convert him into a central midfielder, according to The Times.
Pochettino is said to have identified Barkley as a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele at Spurs, apparently because he fears the Belgian will struggle to play at the highest level beyond his early thirties.
It comes as reports claim Chelsea are planning to move for both Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Arsenal’s Oxlade-Chamberlain and Everton’s Barkley have a year remaining on their respective contracts.
And the Daily Telegraph say the Blues are considering tabling bids for both England internationals.
So too does The Sun, which declares that Chelsea are lining up a “£50m double swoop” to take the duo to Stamford Bridge.
The Daily Mirror say Chelsea are planning moves for Oxlade-Chamberlain and Barkley and are looking to tie up a deal for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have made a late bid to sign Bayern Munich’s teenage midfielder Renato Sanches on loan ahead of AC Milan, the Telegraph say.
Bayern are reported to be willing to loan the Portuguese 19-year-old out for the season after he failed to impress last term.
And The Sun say Arsenal are closing in on a £45m deal to sign France midfielder Thomas Lemar from Monaco.
