Good news for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino – the future looks bright…
Kazaiah Sterling scored a hat-trick as Tottenham thrashed Stevenage 10-1 in the FA Youth Cup.
Japhet Tanganga and Samuel Shashoua both scored twice in a one-sided third-round tie at Stevenage’s Broadhall Way ground, where Spurs, who were drawn as the home team, play Under-18s home matches.
Timothy Eyoma, Jaden Brown and Jack Roles also netted for Tottenham, who were 2-0 up within 11 minutes and three ahead at half-time.
Sterling put them in front after just 97 seconds when he finished coolly after being set up by Dylan Duncan.
Sterling was just as clinical after being put through by Roles, and Duncan had an effort cleared off the line before the third goal.
That goal came a couple of minutes before half-time and was a beauty.
Keanan Bennetts cleverly directed Shashoua’s low pass towards Sterling, who smashed home.
Sterling’s treble came four days after Roles scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 win against Southampton.
Tanganga added the fourth on the hour mark with a header from Shashoua’s cross – the first of three goals in the space of five minutes.
Tanganga again headed home, this time from Shashoua’s free-kick, before Eyoma made it six
Again Shashoua was involved, letting fly with a shot which struck Sterling and fell to Eyoma, who made no mistake.
And Shashoua was involved yet again for the seventh, sending through substitute Brown, who nudged the ball past the keeper before tapping into an empty net.
Ben Wilmot scored a consolation goal for Stevenage with an overhead kick before Shashoua got his name on the scoresheet with a great finish from Bennetts’ cross.
There were two more goals in injury time, with Bennetts setting up Roles before Shashoua’s left-footed strike made it 10.
