QPR coach set to depart Loftus Road

Julien Stephan’s assistant Alou Diarra is set to leave QPR, according to West London Sport.

Diarra, whose playing career included spells at West Ham and Charlton, returned to London last summer after fellow Frenchman Stephan was installed as head coach of the R’s.

But West London Sport say coach Diarra will be moving on after a year at the club. He is apparently keen to work as a head coach.

There were mixed fortunes for Rangers in their first season under Stephan, who led his hometown club Rennes to the French Cup and also managed Strasbourg prior to arriving in England.

They were part of the battle for a Championship play-off place for much of the season but finished 15th in the table for the second year in a row, with injuries to key players taking their toll.

Some changes are expected ahead of next season and Stephan will be without Diarra, although it is not yet known who the assistant head coach’s replacement will be.

West London Sport recently reported that veteran defender Steve Cook, who has not been retained as a player now his contract is expiring, has been offered a coaching role – although that would involve working with the development squad.
