‘We’re just enjoying him’ – QPR boss on Edwards

Marti Cifuentes says Ronnie Edwards is simply enjoying his loan spell at QPR, regardless of what the future holds for the Southampton defender.

Edwards, who recently won his first England Under-21 cap, has impressed since moving to west London.

He appears to have a big future at Southampton, who signed him from Peterborough last year.

The Saints face a summer of rebuilding following the club’s relegation from the Premier League and the departure of Ivan Juric.

A new manager will be appointed at St Mary’s, where Simon Rusk and Adam Lallana are in caretaker charge, to oversee the club’s attempt to get back to the top flight – and based on Edwards’ performances in the Championship this season, he will be an asset.

But Rangers boss Cifuentes was nevertheless asked whether there was any chance of his club keeping Edwards at Loftus Road.

“I don’t know. We are just enjoying (him) and I think he’s enjoying as well,” said Cifuentes, as reported by West London Sport.

“Let’s try to finish in a good way, these last four games, and then see what happens. For me, it’s not even in my mind.”

One player who it seems will be staying with the R’s is captain Steve Cook, who West London Sport say will be given a new contract.
