Chelsea have injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s London derby at Crystal Palace.
Ben Chilwell remains sidelined with the long-term knee injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season, but it is hoped that at least one other Chelsea star will be able to return to action as early as this weekend.
Reece James
The chances of James being available for the game at Selhurst Park are seemingly good.
Out since suffering a hamstring injury in the draw against Brighton on 29 December, James was not involved in the recent World Club Cup but returned to training a week before the tournament and could well be in line for a return to the squad.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Loftus-Cheek, who previously spent a season on loan at Palace, could also return to the squad for the clash with the Eagles – although Chelsea’s strong midfield options mean he is unlikely to get any game time.
Loftus-Cheek picked up a knock during the winter break in fixtures and was unable to play in the recent FA Cup tie against Plymouth or feature in the World Club Cup, but it is hoped that he will now be ready for consideration.
Mason Mount
Mount will be missing for Saturday’s game and looks to be facing at least a fortnight on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
The England international limped off during the first half against Palmeiras and “hurt his ligaments badly” according to Blues boss Thomas Tuchel. His condition is still being assessed.
