Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell says the 1-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday could be the turning point in their season.
The Blues totally dominated the first half but only had a Jorginho penalty to show for their efforts.
Spurs improved dramatically after the break but Thomas Tuchel’s side rarely looked troubled defensively and saw out a deserved victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Sidwell said on BT Sport: “Chelsea were excellent; in the first half they dominated possession with a game plan in and out of possession. The players took on the tactics.
“It’s optimistic. As a Chelsea fan you have to think this could be a turning point. They are back on track and chasing the top four.”
Fellow BT pundit, former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, agreed.
Ferdinand said: “The players are doing their auditions live through 90 minutes and I think Tuchel will be pleased with what he is seeing.
“Players are rotating in different positions with different shapes and the players are adjusting very well.”
The win took Chelsea above Spurs and up to eighth position in the Premier League table. They face bottom side Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.
