Agent says Jorginho will stay at Chelsea

Jorginho’s immediate future is at Stamford Bridge according to the agent of the Chelsea midfielder.

The Italian international has been linked with a move away during the summer transfer window – most recently with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain – as talk intensified over a possible move for West Ham’s Declan Rice.

But Joao Santos insists that no formal offer has come in for the 28-year-old which could in turn scupper a Chelsea move for Rice in this window.

“Jorginho still has a three-year contract with Chelsea, this plus two,” he told 90min.

“I feel a lot of talk about Arsenal and PSG in the last few days, but the reality is that up to now, no official offer has arrived for the player.

“The transfer market closes on October 5, but the more time passes the more difficult it becomes to make such an important operation.

“So at the moment, I can say that it is just rumours.”

The summer acquisition of Kai Havertz has added to the intense competition for central midfield roles, with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the injured Billy Gilmour all in the mix for a place in Frank Lampard’s side.

England international Ross Barkley has already been shipped out on loan to Aston Villa as Chelsea look to reduce the squad before the window slams shut.

But Jorginho has been a regular starter for the Blues this season and remains vice-captain.

“He is happy at Chelsea, he started the season well and being the vice-captain at the moment,” Santos added.

Santos also rubbished talk of an approach from Roma..

With Roma, there was absolutely nothing,” he said.

“Hard to see him in Serie A because he has an important salary and a cost that only two or three clubs can afford.

“Given the situation and the type of market we are experiencing, it is difficult to think of an operation of this type with so little time available.”
