Jermaine Jenas believes Chelsea can be a major force now that Frank Lampard is bringing in new players.
The former Tottenham and England midfielder told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Friday Football Social that Chelsea will have a “scary” strikeforce if they complete a deal to sign Timo Werner.
The Germany striker, 24, looks set to move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig, having scored 25 goals in the Bundesliga this season and 11 in 29 appearances for his country.
Boss Lampard has made it clear he is keen to boost the club’s attacking options for next season.
And Jenas is convinced Werner can form a lethal partnership with recent signing Hakim Ziyech.
Jenas “He is the perfect fit. Lamps isn’t messing about.
“This window you can see what he is trying to do: Ziyech on the right and cutting inside and Werner doing the same on the other side.”
Lampard’s options in attack have been limited at times this season and he has been determined to put that right.
Jenas added: “Werner is lightning. He is very quick, he has the finishing, the touches, the movement and is built for the Premier League. He is a top, top player.
“I think it is great business. £50m for a player like him, it sounds strange, but it is cheap. I think Chelsea is the right place for him.
“The Chelsea front line is looking scary.
