Christian Pulisic’s injury is not as bad as initially feared and he could be back for Chelsea in a couple of weeks, according to The Sun.
Pulisic has been struggling with a groin problem and was expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks. But The Sun say the American is likely to return to action sooner.
That news will be a huge boost for manager Frank Lampard, who expected to be without him for longer.
Pulisic picked up the injury in training and his absence has been a blow for the Blues as he had previously been in excellent form.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Lampard appeared to be pessimistic about the chances of Pulisic making a swift return.
Lampard said: “He’s got a tendon injury and it’s disappointing for us. We’ll have to see how quickly he recovers because it’s quite a nasty injury. He was in pain when it happened.
“It is a damaging miss because he’s a good player, we need competition in wide areas and he was in good form.
“Before Christmas he was reporting a bit of tiredness. I was relying on him a lot in some games. It’s why he came out of the team.”
Pulisic will miss this weekend’s trip to Newcastle but The Sun say he could be available again for the FA Cup tie away to Championship side Hull City.
