Graeme Souness has suggested that Jose Mourinho made a mistake with his team selection against Chelsea.
Tottenham were beaten 2-0 at home by boss Mourinho’s former club and pundit Souness questioned the decision to play Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko together in midfield.
Blues boss Frank Lampard switched to a 3-4-3 formation for the game and his team had the upper hand in the middle of the pitch.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Scotland international Souness said: “Chelsea had too much football in midfield for a pedestrian midfield of Spurs. They were quicker of thought.
“I can understand why Jose goes with Dier and Sissoko. He tried it against Bayern Munich.
“Yes, they’re defensive-minded and when you’re against a very good team you’ll try to stop the opposition.
“But when you have the ball you can’t keep giving it back to the opposition. Sooner or later they’re going to hurt you and I think that’s something they’re going to have to address.
“The midfield of Chelsea has just dominated them from start to finish; too much football, too much adventure, too much clever passing – they were just on another level.”
