Former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy believes Mauricio Pochettino is happy at the club and has a better squad than Spurs are given credit for.
Pochettino, who has been linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United, was the only Premier League manager not to make a summer signing.
But Murphy, speaking as a pundit on Match of the Day, insisted that Tottenham’s current squad is more than good enough to challenge at the top of the table.
Their strength in depth was demonstrated by Christian Eriksen coming off the bench to score a last-gasp winner against Burnley at Wembley.
Murphy said: “People have talked about the lack of signings and ambition – will he (Pochettino) stay or will he not?
“I think he’s happy there and I think the squad is better than people give it credit for.
“The substitutes’ bench (against Burnley) was amazing. He was able to call on Eriksen, Son, Llorente – a year or two ago you couldn’t say Tottenham had the capability of doing that.
“They’ve played a lot of games, everyone’s been contributing, and to have Eriksen on the bench – I don’t think they could have done that 12 months or 18 months ago.”
Spurs, now third in the table, have been linked with a host of players ahead of next month’s transfer window.
But former England international Murphy, who had an 18-month spell at Spurs during his playing career, added: “I’m not sure Tottenham do need that much in January – maybe one, two at the most.
“That squad is very, very good and the way they’re going at the moment everyone at the club should be proud of what Pochettino’s doing.”
