Mauricio Pochettino has praised Erik Lamela for his recent performances for Tottenham and urged him to produce on a consistent basis.
Lamela’s winner against West Ham on Saturday took his goal tally for the season to five.
The Argentine forward has battled back from his injury problems and Pochettino believes Lamela’s maturity has also been a factor in his recent upturn in fortunes.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after Spurs’ derby victory at the London Stadium, Pochettino said: “The form of a player sometimes changes and sometimes it’s difficult to explain.
“The most important thing is when you trust them and you feel the confidence.
“We believe in him, we trust him, and he’s a player that is more mature.
“More mature – that is the key. He is more relaxed and calm in front of goal.
“Now he needs to be consistent. He has to play his best and we have to manage him in the best way.
“He’s had a lot of injuries. But patience, belief and care about your player and that is the most important thing.”
Lamela, 26, has now scored four goals in his last five matches.
