Trent Sainsbury is now a free agent – but QPR could still miss out on the Australia defender.

West London Sport reports that Sainsbury, 26, has terminated his contract with Chinese club Jiangsu Suning but is attracting interest from PSV Eindhoven.

Should Sainsbury opt for a move to Holland, it would be a major blow for Rangers, whose defensive options going into the new season are limited.

They have been limited further by the absence of Darnell Furlong, who faces three months out with a knee injury.

But Rangers have moved to secure the long-term future of Furlong, who has signed a new three-year contract at Loftus Road.

Furlong told the club’s website: “Contracts aren’t just given to you, you have to work hard to earn them. You can’t take it for granted and already I’m thinking about what I need to do to earn the next one.

“Nothing is going to change for me. I am just happy this has been sorted out so that I can focus fully on doing what I need to do to get out on the pitch.”

QPR boss Steve McClaren added: “Darnell fully deserves this new deal and I am delighted for him.”
