Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has dismissed suggestions that Liverpool have shown the way to beat Manchester City.
Runaway leaders City have dominated the Premier League this season and are 18 points clear of title holders Chelsea.
But Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over them in the Champions League this week was their second win against City this season.
However, speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, Conte did not agree that other teams can learn from Liverpool’s approach against Pep Guardiola’s side.
“No, I think you can beat the the opponent in different ways. There is not only one way to beat an opponent,” Conte said.
“You must understand what are the characteristics of your players, because if you have players that are good to press and good to run for 95 minutes it’s right to bring high intensity and to press.
“If you don’t have this type of players, and they have difficulty to press and they have difficulty to play without the ball, then you have to go another way to try to beat them.”
The Italian also responded to his former team-mate and ex-Chelsea man Gianluca Vialli suggesting that Conte “cannot wait” to leave Stamford Bridge.
“It is not true. Gianluca is a friend but I have not talked with him for one year, maybe,” he said.
