Manuel Pellegrini has been sacked as West Ham manager.

Pellegrini, who spent £155m during his time as Hammers boss, was shown the door after Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Leicester City.

It was West Ham’s ninth loss in their past 12 games and left them 17th in the Premier League table, one point above the relegation zone.

Former Manchester City manager Pellegrini leaves after 18 months in charge, having been appointed in May 2018 on a three-year contract.

“It is with great disappointment that we’ve had to make this decision,” said joint-chairman David Sullivan.

“It has become clear that that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season.

“We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal.”

West Ham won 24 of their 64 games under the Chilean, losing 29.
