David Moyes has appealed to West Ham fans for their backing as he looks to turn the club’s miserable season around.

Many Hammers supporters were against Moyes’ recent appointment as manager following the sacking of Slaven Bilic.

Asked at a press conference on Thursday about their opposition to him, Moyes said: “I was a little surprised when I heard it.

“I want the fans behind us and to give us the best chance of winning. We all have to be together.

“A win would be great and we need that. We have fixtures coming up that will be more difficult. Winning changes how your week looks and how you go about the week.”

The Hammers made a losing start to life under Moyes, going down 2-0 at Watford on Sunday.

But the former Manchester United boss has insisted there are positives he can take from that match.

He said: “We analysed the game. There were a lot of good things in the game and things we can say ‘that was better’.

“We passed it more and ran more – we have to look at the positives.

“I’ve only had one game with them, we do have players with big reputations and I’m looking for big performances.”
