United reportedly want West Ham star Rice

West Ham star Declan Rice is reportedly a target for Manchester United.

The Daily Star Sunday say United boss Jose Mourinho wants to take the 19-year-old centre-back to Old Trafford.

The newspaper say United have officially declared an interest in Rice, who has been linked with several other clubs, and suggest Manchester City could also make a move for him.

The story has prompted the Express to declare that Mourinho is looking to beat Liverpool and Arsenal to the signing of Rice.

There has been speculation about both the youngster’s club and international future.

He has yet to agree a new contract at the London Stadium, leading to fears among West Ham fans that the club could lose him.

Rice has rejected a contract offer and negotiations between West Ham and his representatives are ongoing.

And he has yet to reveal a decision on whether his international future lies with England or the Republic of Ireland.

The London-born Rice has played for the Republic but only in friendly matches, so is therefore still eligible to play for England.

England boss Gareth Southgate is keen to call him up and reports have suggested that Rice will opt for the country of his birth.
