Paper round-up: United linked with Alderweireld

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is one of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho’s top transfer targets this summer, according to The Independent.

It comes amid speculation over the future of Alderweireld, who has been discussing a new contract at Spurs.

The Independent say Mourinho wants to bring in four players and that his priority is a centre-back, with Alderweireld and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti his main targets.

Meanwhile, The Sun say ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho wants to sign Willian from his former club.

The newspaper quote ‘an Old Trafford source’ as saying: “Jose is still interested in him. The club had a sniff last year but Matic was the only possibility.

“He does not have long left on his contract. The boss is a huge fan of his, he is always pull of praise.

“God knows where this leaves the rest of the wide players at the club but it cannot be good for them.

“He is a fantastic trainer with a great attitude towards his football according to Jose.

The Sun also say Chelsea are looking to sign Juventus’ Ghana left-back Kwadwo Asamoah on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

And the Daily Express continue to link former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric with a possible move from Real Madrid to Arsenal.
