Spurs linked with Lingard and Barkley

Tottenham are interested in Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, the Sunday Mirror say.

Lingard’s contract at Old Trafford expires next year and he is set to discuss a new deal with the club in the coming days.

The Sunday Mirror claim Spurs are “hovering in the background” ahead of a possible move for the 24-year-old England international.

The newspaper adds that Lingard is currently one of the lowest-paid members of United’s first-team squad and that he is looking for a considerably improved contract in order to stay.

The Sun on Sunday, on the other hand, say Chelsea and Arsenal will battle to sign Lingard if the player becomes available.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is keen to table a bid for Lingard this summer, it is claimed.

The Sunday Mirror also link Tottenham with Everton’s Ross Barkley again, declaring that he will be “Spurs’ number one target this summer” and “has emerged as the first name on Mauricio Pochettino’s wish-list”.

It follows recent reports that Tottenham boss Pochettino is keen to sign Barkley, who has also been linked with a potential move to Chelsea.

The Sunday Mirror also say doubts remain over the future of Moussa Sissoko, who has failed to impress since his move to north London from Newcastle last year.
