Palace reportedly make Sunderland an offer for Van Aanholt

Crystal Palace have made an Sunderland an offer for left-back Patrick Van Aanholt, the Mail say.

Palace are said to have offered the Black Cats an initial £6m plus £2m in add-ons.

Sunderland manager David Moyes is said to be willing to let Van Aanholt go but not until  a replacement is found.

Earlier, The Sun reported that Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce is closing in on the £3m signing of Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson and is targeting Van Aanholt.

Jenkinson has been linked with a loan move to various clubs but The Sun say Allardyce is set to sign him on a permanent deal for £3m.

The Sun also say West Brom boss Tony Pulis will look to tie up a deal for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.

It follows reports that Allardyce is willing to sell Benteke in order to fund new signings.

Pulis, it is claimed, could fund a move for the Belgian by selling Saido Berahino to Stoke.

Palace reportedly favourites to land Downing

Palace are leading the race to sign Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing, according to the Northern Echo.

Former England international Downing, played under Allardyce at West Ham, has been told he is free to leave the Riverside on loan this month by boss Aitor Karanka.

Newcastle United are also said to be keen on signing the 32-year-old but the Echo believes that Palace are favourites.

There is apparently no suggestion Downing will be allowed to leave Boro on a permanent basis, as he is under contract until the summer of 2019.
