Transfer gossip: Tottenham reportedly make enquiry for Southampton star

Tottenham have made an enquiry about the availability of Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez, according to the Mail.

West Brom and Sunderland have reportedly had bids rejected by the Saints, who want to keep hold of the 27-year-old.

But the Mail say that despite this stance, Spurs have still registered their interest, perhaps with a view to making a firm offer in the summer.

Rodriguez played under Mauricio Pochettino when the Spurs boss was in charge at Southampton.

The one-time England international has scored eight goals in 38 games since August 2015, when he made his return from a serious knee injury.

Southampton are set to add to their strike force with the addition of Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli, but the Mail believe they won’t want to sell Rodriguez in the closing hours of the window.

However, the report adds it may not deter Spurs from returning in the summer.
