Paper round-up: Mourinho reportedly confident of Alderweireld deal

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is confident of a deal to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in January, The Sun say.

Alderweireld continues to be linked with United, who have been tipped to spend when the transfer window opens.

The Sun say recent discussions between Mourinho, his agent Jorge Mendes and United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward concluded that Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is too expensive at £90m and that Alderweireld would therefore be targeted.

Mourinho is said to be confident that he can capture the Belgium international for around £40m.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and United are tracking Hertha Berlin’s Germany Under-21 midfielder Arne Maier, again according to The Sun.

West Ham defender Reece Oxford was watched by scouts from Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim at a recent Under-23s match, The Sun also claim.

Chelsea are only willing to give David Luiz a one-year contract extension, putting his future at the club in doubt, according to the Daily Mirror.

It would mean that Luiz, whose current deal expires this summer, will be free to negotiate with other clubs from next month.

And The Sun say Chelsea will look to sell Victor Moses for £12m in January and that there is potential interest from Fulham and his former club Crystal Palace.
