Lloris returns but Spurs missing five for Middlesbrough game

Hugo Lloris will return for Tottenham Hotspur when they face Middlesbrough on Saturday but Danny Rose is among five absentees.

France international Lloris missed Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland due to illness.

However, boss Mauricio Pochettino says the goalkeeper trained on Thursday and Friday and is fully fit again.

Left-back Rose was taken off during the first half against Sunderland with a knee injury and had a scan on Thursday.

He will need to wait until Monday for the results, with any damage to the medial ligament meaning four weeks out of action.

Centre-back Jan Vertonghen is stepping up his recovery after suffering ankle ligament damage, and is starting to run again.

Right-back Kieran Trippier, who hurt his hip in the FA Cup fourth-round win over Wycombe, winger Erik Lamela, who also has a hip problem, and forward Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, out with a knee injury, remain sidelined.

Middlesbrough could give a debut to Algeria international midfielder Adlene Guedioura, after he joined from Watford on transfer deadline day.

George Friend and Gaston Ramirez are both injured but Calum Chambers – on loan from Arsenal – may return from a foot problem.
