Chelsea eyeing Tottenham target and might also still sign Ake – report

Chelsea could beat Tottenham to the signing of AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, reports say.

Poland international Piatek has been linked with Chelsea during previous transfer windows and is again being touted for a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham have more recently been linked with him and are reported to have been in talks with AC Milan over a potential deal to sign the player.

The Daily Mail say Spurs have reopened discussions with Milan ahead of this week’s transfer deadline but face the prospect of having to pay £25m-plus in order to sign him.

Chelsea are also looking for a striker – and a number of UK newspapers, such as the Daily Star, have picked up on reports in Italy that the Blues have been offered the chance to sign Piatek.

And the Daily Telegraph have since reported that Chelsea are closely monitoring the Piatek situation and see him as a potential alternative to Edinson Cavani.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has spoken of the short-term need to bring in a striker in order to boost his side’s chances of a top-four finish.

Cavani is a target but seems to favour a move to Atletico Madrid, so Chelsea have been looking at other options.

The Telegraph also suggest Chelsea could yet re-sign Nathan Ake from Bournemouth despite Lampard insisting he is not looking to bring in a centre-back.

Chelsea have an option to buy back the defender for £40m as part of the deal agreed when he was sold to the south coast club in 2017.
