We want to play with two up front – Bircham

Marc Bircham says he and Ian Holloway are keen for QPR to play with two up front but their options have been limited.

Rangers have lost all but one of their five matches since Holloway returned for a second spell as manager.

They have failed to score in their last two games, with Conor Washington deployed as a lone striker in both because Sebastian Polter and Idrissa Sylla were carrying injuries.

Polter, who came on as a substitute in the recent defeats against Rotherham and Derby, has been nursing a thigh problem.

The German is now fit enough to start and could be joined in the squad by Sylla for Sunday’s match against Aston Villa, West London Sport report.

“Injuries are part and parcel of football, but we’ve been unlucky, with two out of three of our strikers ruled out for the majority of our time here,” first-team coach Bircham told QPR’s website.

“We want to play with attacking players and look to play two up front, like we did against Norwich.

“But Polter and Sylla have both been carrying knocks, so that’s put pay to that since then.

“We’ve not been able to pick the same team for two games in a row, which is tough from a continuity point of view.”
