QPR chairman Bhatia takes on new role

QPR chairman Amit Bhatia has widened his business interests by taking over as non-executive chairman of construction firm Breedon.

Bhatia has been with Breedon since 2016 and became a company director last year.

He is succeeding Peter Tom, a former rugby player for Leicester Tigers, who is stepping down.

Bhatia already owns 17.78% of Breedon through Abicad Holding Ltd and will buy at least 10 million more of Tom’s shares at a price of 72p each – and is offering to buy all 22 million at the same price, The Construction Index reports.

Tom said: “I am delighted that the board has chosen Amit as my successor.

“With many years of relevant commercial and board experience, I am confident that he will successfully lead Breedon’s board to deliver further sustainable value for our stakeholders, as the group continues to develop and grow.

“I leave Breedon in great shape and am incredibly proud of what we have achieved since we created the company in 2010.

“I have the highest regard for [chief executive] Pat Ward and the senior management team and I would also like to express my deep gratitude to all of my colleagues who have contributed so much to Breedon’s success.”

Bhatia said: “It is a huge privilege to be asked to lead the board of Breedon.

“I am more excited than ever to be playing my part in the group’s ongoing development.”
