QPR boss insists he has always rated Wszolek

Steve McClaren has backed QPR winger Pawel Wszolek and insisted he has always rated the Pole.

Wszolek scored in an impressive performance against Peterborough in the Carabao Cup this week, having been left out for Rangers’ two opening matches of the league season.

But manager McClaren says Wszolek has always been in his first-team plans since he took over as R’s boss earlier this summer.

McClaren told West London Sport: “He deserved his opportunity because we needed consistency and energy in wide areas and he gave us that.

“I’ve always liked Pavel. I remember when they first signed him here, I thought he was very good.”

Wszolek, who missed out on a place in Poland’s World Cup squad, is very much in McClaren’s thoughts for Saturday’s game at West Brom.

“I had no hesitation in picking him and he showed his experience. It’s a difficult team now to pick on Saturday,” McClaren admitted.
