Huge blow for QPR fans as star players are set to leave

QPR are set to sell goalkeeper Alex Smithies to Cardiff City – and have confirmed the departure of Jack Robinson.

The out of contract Robinson’s exit has been on the cards for some time, with West London Sport reporting before the end of last season that neither he nor skipper Nedum Onuoha would sign new deals at Loftus Road.

Onuoha’s departure was later confirmed by Rangers who have now also admitted that Robinson will not be staying.

“Jack will be leaving us,” QPR director of football Les Ferdinand told the club’s website.

“We made him a very attractive offer, but he decided to turn it down and take his chances in the market.

“We thank Jack for his efforts during his time with us and wish him every success in the future.

“The club’s philosophy with regards to signing players and retaining players has changed in recent years, and that is vital for our sustainability going forward.”

While the loss of Robinson is not unexpected, news of Smithies’ likely move will come as a blow to QPR fans.

The 28-year-old has been superb during his three-year stint with the R’s and is set to leave for around £4m after being given the chance to play in the top flight.
