Chelsea confident transfer ban will be lifted

Chelsea reportedly believe their transfer ban will be lifted in January.

The Blues were unable to make any signings during the summer because of a two-window ban imposed by FIFA following an investigation into Chelsea’s signing of foreign under-18 players.

FIFA rejected an appeal by the club but Chelsea have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and a favourable verdict would see the ban lifted and signings allowed when the transfer window opens again in January.

And the Mirror say leading agents have been informed that Chelsea expect to be able to make signings.

That would be a huge boost for Frank Lampard, who has been unable to make signings since taking over as manager at Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.

Lampard is committed to giving the club’s youngsters a chance and has already had some success in that respect, with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham making an impact.

But the chance to add to the squad midway through the season would no doubt make Chelsea much stronger.

An anonymous agent is quoted by the Mirror as saying: “Chelsea are anxious to strengthen their squad and seem pretty confident that they will win the appeal and be able to trade again in January

“It could mean the difference to them finishing in the Premier League top four and qualifying for the Champions League.”
