Millwall eyeing former QPR forward Clarke

Millwall are among Championship clubs believed to be interested in Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke.

Bristol City are also thought to be keen on the former QPR player, who looks likely to move before this week’s transfer deadline.

Lions boss Neil Harris is keen to bring in a striker and could be about to bring Clarke, 33, back to London.

Clarke had an unhappy one-year spell at QPR, where he failed to score for the club and started only two league matches.

He has fared much better at Sheffield United but his time at Bramall Lane appears to be coming to an end.

Clarke was left out of the Blades’ squad for their match against Norwich and the Sheffield Star reports that manager Chris Wilder has confirmed it was because of a possible move.

“I’m always open in situations like this,” Wilder said.

“Yes, there’s been people interested in him. Leon wasn’t involved (against Norwich), partly because of that, and we’ll let him think about what he wants to do. He’s obviously got three or four days to do that.

“We’ve told Leon about the interest. We always do tell our players if someone comes in for them because we prefer to be honest and keep them abreast of what’s going on.”
