Sarri: Jorginho can handle stick from Chelsea fans

Maurizio Sarri says Jorginho can handle the criticism from Chelsea fans.

There were loud cheers from the home crowd when Jorginho was substituted by head coach Sarri during the 1-1 draw at home to Wolves.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Sarri said he had no doubt that the midfielder would take it in his stride.

Sarri said: “He is a very strong character and he is a professional player, so he has to play in every condition.”

Sarri again defended Jorginho after the game at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea needed an injury-time equaliser by Eden Hazard to rescue a point.

He insisted a lack of movement by other players – including Hazard – was the main problem.

“Jorginho, if the other players do not move without the ball, is in trouble, because he is really very able to play with one touch,” said Sarri.

“Of course if you want to play with one touch you need movements with the other players.

“Then in the last 20 minutes, Jorginho is not suitable for 4-2-3-1, so it (taking him off) was only a consequence of the change of system, not the performance.

“I know him very well. He can go in trouble if all the rest of the team is not moving.”
