Lampard tells Batshuayi what he needs to do to get into his Chelsea team

Frank Lampard has told Michy Batshuayi he will get chances at Chelsea this season but will need to be fit enough to adapt to his style of play.

Boss Lampard operates with a lone striker and expects them to get through plenty of work up front.

And he expects to turn to Batshuayi at some stage despite the Belgian currently being below Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order.

Batshuayi has been linked with a move before the European transfer window closes, but Lampard told a press conference on Friday that he will be staying.

Lampard said: “The future is Michy is here as one of our strikers. We have three strikers this year and there will be opportunities for him.

“With Michy it’s important that he trains at a top, top level every day, gets himself absolutely fit to play the way I want my strikers to play, which will be constant movement – on and off the ball – and obviously to try and score goals.

“He’s very much our player and competing with Tammy and Ollie for that space.”

But Davide Zappacosta and Tiemoue Bakayoko could both be on their way out of Stamford Bridge.

Lampard said: “It’s similar with both players. They obviously haven’t started the season for us. Both of them have shown really good application and not been a problem.

“The decision will be what’s best for the club and for them individually as well.”
