Youngster’s hopes of QPR deal suffer a setback

Henry Wise’s hopes of a move to QPR were dealt a setback when he went off injured while playing for the club’s Under-23 team.

West London Sport reported on Monday morning that the 18-year-old son of former Chelsea star Dennis Wise had joined the R’s on trial.

However, later in the day, the young midfielder, who is a third-year scholar at Derby County, was involved in a clash of heads during a game against Charlton and had to go off shortly before half-time.

Rangers won the game 3-0, with Lewis Walker scoring twice and Giles Phillips also finding the net.

Young Wise was on QPR’s books before being offered a move to Arsenal four years ago. He subsequently moved on to Derby’s academy.

His father, who was an avid R’s fan as a boy, became a cult figure during an 11-year spell at Chelsea, during which he won 21 England caps.

Wise famously held Henry, then a baby, in his arms while lifting the FA Cup after Chelsea’s victory against Aston Villa at Wembley in 2000.

QPR have a policy of picking up young players who are looking for a second chance in the game after being released by other clubs.

Exciting forward Ebere Eze recently broke into the England Under-20 squad having impressed since being snapped up after being released by Millwall in 2016.

The likes of Charlie Owens, Aramide Oteh, Charlie Rowan and Walker have also been given deals by QPR after being released by other clubs.
