Manager Antonio Conte has warned that a busy September is one of the reasons Chelsea must make signings before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The Blues have added quality to their squad with the summer signings of German defender Antonio Rudiger, Spain striker Alvaro Morata and French midfielder Timoue Bakayoko.

But with a Champions League campaign beginning next month in addition to a busy domestic schedule, Conte has warned that the squad lacks depth.

“Don’t forget that next month in September we have to play seven games in a month and I need to rotate my players,” the Italian told reporters following his team’s 2-0 win against Everton in Sunday.

“It is very difficult to play seven games with the same players. There are four days to go in the transfer market and I think the club is working very hard to try to improve our squad.

“I think the club is working very hard to strengthen the squad and knows the situation.”

Chelsea go into the international break with back-to-back victories after the shock opening day defeat against Burnley.

The Premier League champions have been linked with numerous players, including Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leicester’s Danny Drinkwater.

There are also reports that the Blues plan to table a bid for Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente.
