Paper round-up: Chelsea eyeing Lille recruitment chief

Chelsea are interested in recruiting Lille sporting director Luis Campos, according to reports.

Manchester United have also been linked with Campos (pictured in the centre above), who has built an excellent reputation in France.

And a number of UK newspapers have picked up on reports in the French media that Chelsea are also keen on him.

The Sun, the Daily Mail and the Daily Star all report Chelsea’s apparent interest in Campos, who would be a replacement for former Blues sporting director Michael Emenalo.

There is speculation too about how it might affect the role of
director Marina Granovskaia, who has been in charge of transfer dealings at Stamford Bridge since Emenalo left in 2016.

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that Ajax director of football Marc Overmars, who has been tipped to leave for Arsenal, says he would want to sign Matthijs de Ligt if he were to join another club.

Defender De Ligt has been linked with a number of English clubs after impressing for Ajax.

Overmars is quoted as saying: “For me, De Ligt can play easily on any of the six best teams in the world right now.

“He has the power, the mentality, the heart. If I worked at another club, I would like to sign him immediately.

“We do not need to sell him, we do not need the money, but I know he will go to one of the big clubs [eventually].”

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino expects a touchline ban for his confrontation with referee Mike Dean following his side’s loss at Burnley, according to the Mail.

Pochettino is on a three-man shortlist to take over at Real Madrid this summer, along with Massimiliano Allegri and Joachim Low, the Daily Mirror say.

And West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is set to be included in England’s squad for the European Championship qualifiers, the Daily Telegraph reports.
