Wenger confirms Jenkinson is set for Palace move

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Carl Jenkinson is close to a move to Crystal Palace but the Arsenal boss has dismissed reports he is trying to sign Torino striker Andrea Belotti.

Jenkinson, 24, is not in Wenger’s first-team plans at Arsenal and is expected to join the Eagles early next week.

Asked at a press conference on Friday morning if Jenkinson was set for a move to Selhurst Park, Wenger said: “You look well informed. It’s a possibility that he will move in the next two or three days.

“I cannot tell you much more as it has not come to a conclusion yet.”

Jenkinson’s departure from the Emirates Stadium has looked on the cards for some time.

He spent the best part of two seasons on loan at West Ham and has made just one Premier League appearance for Arsenal this season, against Manchester United in November.

His most recent outing came in the EFL Cup defeat at home to Southampton.

However, Wenger insisted there is no truth in reports he is looking to bring Belotti to north London.

“I think today that is what you call fake news,” said the Frenchman.

Wenger also denied any interest in Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, who has been linked with Arsenal too.
